Cradle of Christianity
Tatev · Noravank · Khor Virap
The world's first Christian nation
Armenia adopted Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD — the first nation on earth to do so. Monasteries like Tatev, Noravank and Khor Virap cling to cliff edges above deep gorges, their stone crosses (khachkars) over a thousand years old. Etchmiadzin is regarded as the oldest cathedral in Christendom.
