Forested hill ridges drop toward a valley, with a snow-capped mountain range beyond under a blue sky.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before your Caucasus expedition.

F.A.Q

Answers to what travellers ask most before a Caucasus expedition.

F.01Is it really safe to travel in Armenia?

Yes. Armenia is among the safest travel destinations on earth — in the global top 8 on the crime index. We add satellite communication, certified guides and first-aid structures.

F.02Do I need a visa?

EU citizens can enter Armenia visa-free for tourism (typically up to 90–180 days). We'll send current details with your booking.

F.03Do I need off-road experience?

For guided tours as a passenger, none at all. For self-drive expeditions we require solid 4×4 experience and run a terrain clinic on day one.

F.04How fit do I need to be?

Most tours involve moderate walking. Luxury and standard tours suit most healthy travellers; wilderness tours demand more resilience for camping and long days.

F.05When is the best time to travel?

We run expeditions all year. In winter we adapt the route: monasteries, gorges and the lowlands stay open, the high passes are limited — some of them we still drive with our specially equipped 4×4s. We'll tell you honestly what works on your dates.

F.06How do I get there?

Every expedition starts and ends in Yerevan. Most guests fly via Vienna, Paris or Dubai to Zvartnots airport (EVN), where we pick you up. Your connection and transfer are arranged together with your booking.

F.07How big are the groups?

Small. We travel in compact convoys, so every guest gets time with the guide, quiet at the sites and room to adjust the route. Private expeditions are available on request.

F.08What's included?

Vehicle and equipment, fuel, guides, accommodation for your comfort tier, most meals, permits and the full safety infrastructure (satellite communication, first aid). International flights, any visa fees and personal spending are extra. The exact scope is spelled out in your quote.

F.09How does booking work?

Send us an inquiry with your dates, group and comfort tier. We reply personally with a route proposal and a quote. A deposit secures your dates, and you pay the balance on site in Yerevan, at the welcome briefing on day one.

F.10What about cancellation or rebooking?

We keep rebooking as flexible as possible — the earlier you tell us, the easier it is. The exact cancellation and rebooking terms are set out in your quote, so you have full clarity before you pay the deposit.

F.11Do I need travel insurance?

No, it isn't required — the choice is yours. We strongly recommend international health and trip-cancellation insurance, ideally including mountain-rescue and repatriation cover. For the remote highlands, cover for vehicle or helicopter evacuation is also worth having. We're happy to recommend providers.

F.12Which languages do your guides speak?

Our guides speak English; German, French and other languages can be arranged on request.
